Who we are

Seagull is built by Bird Labs. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What data we collect

Account information: When you sign up, we receive your email address, name, account identifier, and sign-in provider from Clerk.

Saved content and preferences: If you save a translation session, we store its transcript, title, timestamps, and selected languages so you can access it again. We also store language and app preferences associated with your account.

Usage and diagnostics: We process feature usage, translation time, subscription allowance, operating-system and user-agent information, and technical error details to operate, secure, and improve Seagull.

Purchase information: Web payments are processed by Stripe. Mobile purchases are processed by Apple or Google and managed through RevenueCat. We receive purchase status, product, renewal, and entitlement information, but we do not receive or store full payment-card details.

Audio data

We do not store audio recordings or use them to train models. Audio is encrypted in transit and streamed in real time to Soniox to provide transcription and translation, then discarded after processing. If you choose to save a session, Seagull stores the resulting text transcript, not the audio.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand product usage, diagnose service problems, and improve Seagull. Analytics events may be associated with your Seagull account identifier and account details such as name, email address, plan, language settings, operating system, and usage totals. Analytics do not include audio recordings or transcript text. We do not sell personal data or use Seagull data for cross-app tracking or third-party advertising.

Communications

We use your name, email address, account status, and product usage to send essential account messages and, where permitted, Seagull product or subscription communications. Marketing messages include an unsubscribe option.

Third-party services

Seagull relies on the following third-party services:

• Clerk — Authentication and account management
• Apple and Google — Mobile app distribution and in-app purchases
• RevenueCat — Mobile subscription and entitlement management
• Stripe — Web payment processing
• Soniox — Speech-to-text transcription
• Cartesia — Text-to-speech (beta feature)
• PostHog — Product analytics

Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.

Data retention

We keep account data and saved transcripts while your account is active, then delete or de-identify them when they are no longer needed for the purposes described here, subject to security, fraud-prevention, tax, and legal retention requirements.

Your choices

You can delete individual saved sessions in the app. You can permanently delete your Seagull account and saved transcripts from Profile → Advanced settings → Delete account. Deleting a Seagull account does not automatically cancel a subscription billed by Apple or Google; manage that subscription in your device's store settings.

You may also contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data, subject to applicable law.
